Conversational AI is evolving from an isolated chat window into an established part of the digital customer interface. Major brands are integrating conversational assistants where customers search, book, order, or need help. CHECK24 offers a useful example: its digital assistant Sophie appears across several areas of the comparison portal and connects information, personal cases, and service processes.

The important point is not a single chatbot. It is that a large digital provider is establishing conversation as an enduring gateway to customer service.

How CHECK24 describes Sophie publicly

On its central contact page, CHECK24 describes Sophie as a digital assistant that provides immediate help around the clock and connects customers to its support team where necessary. In the hotel area, it is available for questions about bookings, payments, cancellation terms, changes, and problems during a stay.

Sophie is also embedded in specific processes elsewhere. For internet cashback, customers upload their invoice through the chat. CHECK24 then describes an automated review, immediate feedback, and payment of the cashback amount following successful verification.

The publicly available terms for the CHECK24 travel planner go further. They describe the chat function as partly automated and AI-supported. At the same time, CHECK24 explains that AI answers may provide initial guidance and do not replace binding offer information, contract documents, or human review.

What Sophie can do today

The publicly documented use cases present a broad range of functions:

  1. Answer service questions. Sophie assists with recurring questions about bookings, orders, payments, deliveries, returns, and complaints.
  2. Consider personal context. After sign-in, questions can be associated with a specific comparison, contract, booking, or other case.
  3. Capture requests in a structured way. Phone numbers, callback requests, complaints, and other details can be collected in the conversation.
  4. Bring documents into processes. In the internet cashback process, an invoice is uploaded and checked automatically.
  5. Trigger next steps. A successful verification can prepare or initiate a downstream process such as payment.
  6. Hand over to people. If a request cannot be resolved in the conversation, the customer can be connected to support or the responsible team.

Not every function necessarily exists in every CHECK24 area or uses the same technical implementation. The public pages instead show different specialist applications under one shared name.

Why this goes beyond an FAQ chatbot

A conventional FAQ bot returns prepared answers. Sophie’s publicly visible use goes further wherever personal cases, documents, or concrete service processes are involved.

This changes the role of conversation:

  • from website navigation to expressing a request directly,
  • from general information to personal context,
  • from an answer to structured handling,
  • from full automation to controlled handover when a person must decide.

This connection between language, knowledge, data, and processes defines the current trend toward AI agents at the customer interface.

Benefits for customers

Such an approach can reduce several points of friction for customers.

One central entry point

Customers do not first need to determine which form, hotline, or specialist team is responsible. They describe their request in their own words and are guided to the appropriate next step.

Support beyond traditional service hours

Recurring requests can be captured or answered at any time. This is especially useful when customers need help in the evening, at weekends, or directly during a booking.

Less repetition

When sign-in, case information, and previously supplied details are connected, customers do not need to explain the same context at every stage. Information already collected can also remain available during a human handover.

Faster processes

Document uploads and automated preliminary checks demonstrate that conversational AI need not end with text answers. The conversation can become the entry point to an executed business process.

Benefits for businesses

For businesses, the potential value extends beyond efficiency. A conversational interface can produce more structured requests, reveal recurring service problems, and make services easier to access across different product areas.

The combination of automation and clear boundaries is particularly relevant. For sensitive travel processes, CHECK24 expressly notes that recommendations may be inaccurate or incomplete and that certain declarations only become effective after confirmation. This is not a contradiction of AI agents but an important design principle: automate what can be handled reliably while keeping legally or professionally relevant decisions controlled.

What the example tells us

CHECK24 does not publish a complete technical architecture or, on the pages reviewed by us, a comprehensive roadmap for Sophie. Claims about internal models, system landscapes, or future functions would therefore be speculation.

The strategic direction is publicly visible, however. Conversation is not merely an additional support channel; it is connected with personal cases, documents, and downstream processes. CHECK24 therefore illustrates a broader market trend: conversational AI is moving closer to real value creation and becoming an interface for digital customer service.

LoyJoy’s perspective

LoyJoy develops AI agents for customer service and sales and therefore follows this development with particular interest. In our view, examples such as CHECK24 Sophie show that conversational, process-oriented customer interfaces have entered the day-to-day operations of major brands. This article is an independent analysis, not a product comparison; information about our own approach is available separately on the LoyJoy platform page.
